This is America

A while back I made a statement on one of my social media accounts stating to be aware of those people who are “Pro-Fetus but Anti-child.”

This particular quote comes from Bakari Sellers, an African-American attorney, political commentator, and politician.

First, let’s be really clear here. I’m neither pro-life or pro-choice. This is a hard fence to straddle because what it all boils down to is what a woman decides to do with her body and what’s inside of her. Women have abortions for many different reasons and quite frankly I don’t think that white males (or any male) should be telling women what they should or should not be doing with their bodies. But these particular people like to be in control so therefore they like to put laws into place that will somehow stroke their little egos. Continue reading

Spring Cleaning with my Favorite Vacuum

We’ve finally made it!  Spring is here; it’s time to hang up our coats, clean out our closets and tuck all of our extra blankets into our storage tubs until next winter.  Finally, we can open the windows and let the sunshine in.  With extra sunlight we’re doomed for being exposed to extra dust!  Hence, the term “Spring Cleaning!”  So, with that being said, I want to inform you guys of my new robotic vacuum–just in time for your Spring cleaning rituals!

Honestly, I never knew that I would be so in love with a vacuum until now.  This just goes to show that 1) I’m getting older 2) Anything that can operate on its own while getting the job done, is a WIN in my book. Continue reading

Life happens and then what?

Typically, this blog is fun and light-hearted.  Sometimes it’s even sassy and mischievous. To be honest, I love all of that about this blog but I must be real and say that sometimes, LIFE HAPPENS!

We find ourselves living our “Best Life” and suddenly we are faced with what looks like turmoil.  Not just with me but with all of us and we have to dig deeper and reach a little higher.  So today, I want to present a different side of this blog.  I want to present a place of refuge.  I want to remind my readers that no matter what you are going through at any time of your life that God is sitting at His thrown and he sees and hears all of your cries.

There are times when I must be willing and obedient to the Word of God and bow down to his authority.  That time is now.  On a daily basis we all go through so much.  It can be on the job, at home, or within our own minds.

The great thing about God is that He will never put more on you than you can bear and often times we have to remind ourselves of that.  Sometimes God has to break us all the way down so that he can build us back up and make room for overflow in our lives.

So whatever you may be going through today, I want to suggest to you to surrender that THING to God.  Whether it’s your marriage, finances, a job, your children, your health, an addiction, your mental state, etc.  Maybe you’re just constantly on the go and you’re so busy with your every day activities that you haven’t even had a moment to think about your day or what is consuming all of your time.  You’re so distant from the world and the word of God, you don’t know whether you are coming or going.  Whatever it is, we need to surrender.  When we surrender to God we then make room for whatever that is profitable in our lives.  Whether it be peace, or love, or joy, or deliverance, or just time.

We have the power to face our situation straight in the face.  I tell Satan all the time, not today!  Hell nah, to the nah, nah, nah!

There are also times when I have to reconnect my faith.  As an adult I tend to let my worries or doubts do the thinking for me.  I know that is not right.  I have to remind fear that it is not the GPS system of my life and therefore I will not be following along its path.

Like the Prodigal Son, I have to go back to what I know and what I know to be a constant in my life; and that is, that God cannot be moved.  He is still like the tree planted by the waters. He is still the beginning and the end.  He is still the only living one.  He is still Lord of Lords and King of Kings.  He is still my rock!

Can I get an Amen?

In closing, I would like to say this prayer for all of you:

Dear God,

I thank you for the readers of this blog.  I ask that you touch them wherever they may be in this appointed time.  I ask that you give each of them the strength to surrender to you and your will.  I pray that you take what was and make it be better than what you said it was going to be.  Turn their test into a testimony.  Turn their pain into joy.  Lord God I pray that as they go through this storm called life that they would come out as pure gold.  We thank you for your power, for your grace, and for your mercy.  We ask that you see past our insecurities so that we can learn to grow again.  We ask that you give us peace that surpass all of our understanding.  But most of all we just thank you for being you.  In Jesus name, Amen.

I love each and every one of you and I pray that this blog will be beneficial in your life today or whenever “Life Happens”.

My PSA to African Americans

My people, my people!!  I’m tired of shaking my head at you!!!

In the year of 2018, there is no need to have to solicit money via GoFundMe® accounts to fund relatives funerals. I am aware of the price tag that comes with a death of a family member but just in case you were not aware there’s this thing called LIFE INSURANCE. This is an essential for every person in your family. Not only is it an essential it is a necessity.

No person or family deserves the added stress of not being able to afford to bury a family member because a life insurance policy wasn’t in effect. And if a policy doesn’t exist collaborating amongst your family to get the money is better than begging for it through a third-party app or account.

Oh, another thing. Most jobs offer life insurance polices during your duration there. This really is the least that one could do.  Jobs with benefits are important.  I’m just saying.  It’s 2018.  It’s time for us to do better, collectively.

Don’t hate the messenger.  Hate the message and accept that the truth hurts sometimes. Besides a great person leaves an inheritance to his/her children’s children.

What are you doing for YOU?

I’m at a point in my life where I feel like my life is in total chaos.  I’m overwhelmed, overworked, and slowly running out of energy.

I’m working two jobs, only because I want to, while also preparing to move, planning a wedding, and running here and there.

I tend to stay up late trying to get little things done only to have to get up within a few hours to start the entire process over again.

I really need a break.  I need to do something for ME!  I’m not talking about going to the gym “me time” but more like having a moment to relax, reflect, and to regroup.

As I try to get my life together, what are you going to do for you?  Sometimes we just need to woosah with a glass of wine in order to keep going.

If I asked you what your superpowers were, what would you say? Would it take you a moment to answer or would the answer to this question come rather quickly to you? For many we have to think about our answer.  Or we would name powers that we wish we had instead of powers that we know we have.  Let’s not get the term confused with being superhuman or supernatural.  But let’s think of it as a way to describe a particular characteristic (or more) that makes you special.  A characteristic that projects the powers within you that makes you unique.  It is easy to coin the term to fictional characters but we sometimes fail to see the superpowers within ourselves.

I began thinking about my superpower(s) and what others would say if I asked them.  My brain got excited and my curiosity sprouted like a beanstalk.  So in my typical Toya fashion, I began texting and inboxing my friends asking them what their superpowers were.  I even went to Facebook soliciting information.  I wanted to see if people were willing to think outside of the box.

Here is what some had to say:

  • Super speed
  • The inability to sleep–using the time to their convenience
  • Being a good listener
  • Being invisible; out-of-the-way
  • The ability to lurk and collect information on anyone
  • Reading minds
  • Loving people
  • Encouraging people to be their best self and always trying to find the silver lining
  • My aura or presence

To answer my own question I would pinpoint my superpower to creativity.  I am a very creative person, coming up with ideas and suggestions.  Except for when it comes to cooking.  I’m a follow the direction type person when it comes to cooking therefore I’ve always enjoyed recipes and baking.  Isn’t that ironic?  Many of also do not give ourselves credit for all of the things we do as an adult; taking care of  home, working, tending to the children, spouses, parents and grandparents, and then trying to have some type of life outside of all of that.  Juggling all of this alone is a superpower within its self.  “Adulting” is HARD and at times I truly feel like I’m superwoman.

If we could, I would like to take this a step further and ask, at what point does your superpower align with your calling and/or purpose? Do you think the two go hand-in-hand?  Do you know what your calling is?  What if your superpower is the same as your calling?

I’d like to hear more about your superpower, your calling, and how the two fit together to make one unique person such as yourself.
