Rumor Has It Destiny’s Child Is Planning A 20th Anniversary Reunion Tour, And We Are Saying Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes — MadameNoire

Help me as I try to control my excitement!

Did you know that I’m a total Beyoncé fan?  I’ve been to three concerts, indoors and outdoors. I’ve traveled for miles, took days off from work, and stood in pouring rain in stadiums just to see Beyoncé perform live. I’ve brought every CD, downloaded and streamed every song. I’ve purchased her Merch and watched everything that she’s ever been in from TV to movies to YouTube videos of her when she was little. I love Beyoncé and I’ve vowed to myself to attend every tour she does from here on out.  That’s just that!

In my mind, Beyoncé and I are friends.  She’s down to Earth, she’s dedicated to her fans and her purpose in life.  She always give more than 100% at everything she does.  She’s pro-black, pro-woman, and she puts on one heck of a show! The girl can truly sing and that’s no lie.

So, as a faithful member of the BeeHive and a long time fan of Destiny’s Child…I’m just sitting here waiting patiently for – if and when – these tour dates drop.  And let’s be fair, I’ve seen Kelly Rowland in concert as well. But only once. So the joy of seeing the trio group come together for a reunion tour has me so excited for 2020. Therefore, I’m saving my coins so that I’ll be ready to purchase tickets WHENEVER that time comes.

If the tour happens, I imagine that each of the ladies would perform a number of their solo songs along with their Destiny’s Child songs. Taking us from church music, to soul music, to club and pop music and me singing to the top of my lungs to number one hits since the 90’s.

This tour would be so lit! 🔥

Check out the article below from MadameNoire for a deeper look inside the story.

Tell me you’re excited as I am!!!

This is America

A while back I made a statement on one of my social media accounts stating to be aware of those people who are “Pro-Fetus but Anti-child.”

This particular quote comes from Bakari Sellers, an African-American attorney, political commentator, and politician.

First, let’s be really clear here. I’m neither pro-life or pro-choice. This is a hard fence to straddle because what it all boils down to is what a woman decides to do with her body and what’s inside of her. Women have abortions for many different reasons and quite frankly I don’t think that white males (or any male) should be telling women what they should or should not be doing with their bodies. But these particular people like to be in control so therefore they like to put laws into place that will somehow stroke their little egos. Continue reading

What you need to know about AirPods

Technology has begun to take over the world.  Before we can get use to one specific device another one is coming out doing something better and different than the last.

AirPods, are Apple’s first wireless Bluetooth earbuds and was released on December 13, 2016.  Upon it’s original release, I knew I wanted them but to be honest I was very skeptical.  So I put my want on the back burner and continued on with life.

Again, with every new invention, a better one will soon be released—at least this is the case with Apple.  So in March of 2019 the second iteration of the AirPods were released.  I thought it was finally time to give these AirPods a try, besides it was time to see what the hype was all about. Protecting our Daughters!

I remember growing up and often feeling like my sister and I really couldn’t do as much as our friends or cousins did.  There were times when we would beg and plead to stay over someone’s house and the answer was always, NO!  Eventually we got use to the word NO and stop asking to stay places or to even go certain places.  My mother always stated that our friends could come visit us and that was it.  I really didn’t understand why at the time but that was our life.

Just so we are clear, I come from a two parent home, but whatever momma said is what the final rule was.  If we ever tried to out talk my mother all she had to do was say my daddy’s name and my dad would give us a look, as if to say, you heard what your momma said! LOL

Now that I’m older, I understand my mother’s logic quite well and I’m actually very thankful that such guidelines were in place.  I now know that my mother was protecting me from being exposed to potential situations I had no business being in at such a young age.  I also realize that my parents only wanted what was best for my sister and me.

What it boils down to is, a person doesn’t know what goes on at another person’s house behind closed doors.  Not saying that everyone is doing bad things but you just don’t know.  Another parent might have rules that are totally different from what are currently in place at your house.  It’s better to not have a child placed in an environment that could be totally foreign to them.

All of this came to mind after I was watching the “Surviving R. Kelly” docuseries that recently aired on Lifetime.  In case you didn’t watch the series, this man has preyed on younger girls for most of his music career causing mental, physical, and sexual abuse to young girls and women as they told their personal stories.  The docuseries highlighted his actions from a young child all the way up to today–where it is said that he had a sex cult.  I watched the show with my daughter as it was very hard to do so, but being that I too, have a 14 year old child, I felt it was necessary and important.

I remember listening to him in heavy rotation as a teenager, not really knowing or putting two and two together.  Now when I think about some of the songs that he made they seem to all be centered on him targeting young naïve children.  Songs like Bump & Grind, and the lyrics stating “His mind is telling him no…but his body is telling him yes!”  Imagine him, as a 28 year old man singing this to a 14  year old girl.

What’s even more disgusting are the parents who act like they couldn’t do anything to protect their children.  I remember listening to the show and this one couple stating that their child who was 14 at the time, threatened them if they didn’t let her go away with R. Kelly.

Really!

Are you kidding me?

Who’s the parent and who’s the adult in this situation?

I wish my daughter would come to me and tell me she’s running off with some guy and if I don’t let her she’s going to threaten me.  Honey, you better send all your threats then because my number one mission and goal is to always protect my child whether she likes it or not.  I hate to see parents not protecting their children and just letting them do whatever they want.  It’s time for us to take back the parent role in our households.  I tell my daughter all the time, you will thank me when you get older and that’s that.

I also believe that it is our responsibility to not only protect our daughters but to also have the best interest of other children that may cross our paths at heart.  During this R. Kelly docuseries so many people were helping and assisting him with getting way with being a predator and no one ever stood up for these young girls.  No one came to their rescue.  No one had enough balls to tell R. Kelly NO!  They were all smitten by his fame and celebrity lifestyle that they allowed a grown man to take advantage of innocent girls.

So the current question floating around social media is can you separate the artist from art?  I believe in this instance, there is no way to separate the two.  Time after time he wrote and sung songs that were centered on having sex with young girls and WE as a culture have ignored every single solitary sign that has come across our TV’s and radio. It’s time that we do better.  We can start by not listening to his music!

I want to publicly ask my generation to stop listening to R. Kelly’s music as protecting our daughters should be more important than listening to his music.  How about we not give him wings so that he can fly any more.  How about we step in the name of love and protect our daughters.   Lets also teach our daughters the importance of self worth and self love.  That no man should ever be able to take their power or voice away from them.

LETS PROTECT OUR DAUGHTERS.  YOUNG BLACK GIRLS ARE IMPORTANT TOO!

“Would it be ok if your spouse went on vacation with their ex?”

Recently, in mainstream media, most of you have heard about Jada Pinkett-Smith discussing her relationship with her husband, Will Smith; along with conversations around her children, her Bonus child, and his mother.  If you are like me, you may even tune in occasionally to her Red Table Talk show that airs on Facebook Live.

Let me be the first to say that I commend Jada for her candid conversations around marriage, kids, life, and blended families.  They are definitely needed and most often they are also very eye-opening.

With that being said, I wanted to take a moment to briefly talk about a recent interview that Jada did on Sway In the Morning radio show.  She stated that because Will had a child prior to their marriage that she allows/is okay with Will, Trey (Will’s son by another woman) and Trey’s mother going on vacation together.  Social media went into a frenzy with views all over the spectrum.  Many people stating that they weren’t that mature to allow such thing to happen.

img_4815

I want to be clear and upfront to my readers and to those who may be around my age–late 30’s–and say this has nothing to do with maturity.  It really has nothing to do with trust. Do not feel bad or feel like you need to get on their level.  A person’s opinion is their opinion, and mine is certainly mine,  but do not feel like you need to get in line with this couple.

People have to learn to take their marriage seriously and you shouldn’t invite additional people into your union.  Where is the respect for the spouse?  If you open a window eventually something will fly in.  I am all for blending families.  I recently posted about how to Embrace your Blended Family just this past Fathers Day.  Click HERE to read more about it!

But telling my husband to go on vacation with your child who is in his 20’s (or any age for that matter) along with his mother so that he can get the dynamics of both mother and father is uncalled for.  Why would you even put that spirit out there?

I’m happy to go on a day trip with everyone to an amusement park.  I will love for us to all be together at graduations and birthdays.  But a vacation where you’re going to be acting like a married couple?  Miss me with that one!!  I think you should have a relationship with the child’s mother/father but a vacation–not so much.

I wonder if Will would allow Jada to do the same thing if she had a child with another man prior to them?  I highly doubt it!!

Keep blending your families but know you MUST draw the line somewhere!  Whether you agree or disagree with me, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comment section below.

How “woke” are you?

“The most disrespected person in America is the black woman.

The most unprotected person in America is the black woman.

The most neglected person in America is the black woman.” ~ Malcolm X

Just how “woke” are you?  The term “being woke” stems from the ideology of being aware and informed from a sociological aspect.  Particularly in reference to the black culture.

Many will claim that they are “woke” or “woke-ish” – if you want to give someone the benefit of the doubt.

However, I’m starting to question one’s ability to be “woke” when we (myself included) tend to put people on pedestals as if they could do no wrong.  From preachers to entertainers to family members and so on.  These people are humans just like the rest of us and it’s time to for us to stop being so naïve.

I also question one’s ability to be “woke” when the value of black females is not a concern of the culture or the human race.  We are quick to cover and defend African-American men but we do not do the same for African-American women.  For decades R. Kelly has had inappropriate relationships with black women and young girls and nothing has been said.  The culture has ignored allegations because we don’t want to bring another “Brother” down, BUT on the flip side Kelly is abusing African American women and no one is on their side.  Instead, you’re continuously going to his concerts and throwing panties on the stage.

Black people stood beside OJ Simpson like they’ve never stood beside anyone else before and we all know OJ is a murderer.  Let’s stop sugar-coating crimes and violations just because it’s a black man that’s committing them.  Let’s stop acting like certain people, because of their public figure status, aren’t subject to doing wrong.  Some of us have yet to separate Bill Cosby from his CHARACTER on the Cosby Show.  I’ll be the first to admit that at one point, I didn’t believe the stories of rape that individuals were coming out with.  But after a while I had to go deep down inside to reevaluate myself and my thoughts.  How could I take away someone else’s truth?  I only knew him based off of his CHARACTER that he portrayed on his show.  A person can have the greatest intentions but still do bad.  A person can be a great actor but still a bad person.  Or a great Pastor in the pulpit but a bad person once outside the church double doors.

But furthermore, when was I going to stand up for women?  While I’ve never been raped, I have been in some uncomfortable situations.  I have felt the pressure coming from men on a number of occasions all because they thought they were entitled.  As a mother to a teenage daughter, no longer could I continue to ignore and make excuses for such behavior!

If we’re really “woke”, lets stand for all people no matter race or gender.  Wrong is wrong and right is right.  We have to stop supporting people who takes advantage of the weak, the underdog, and just women in general.

Women should be valued too!

Snoop Dogg’s Bible of Love

When I first learned that the once gangsta rapper was putting out a gospel CD I was one of those people who laughed and ask if this was really real.  Someone pinch me please!  I honestly didn’t know if I could take the songs on his CD seriously.  I mean we were talking about the Snoop D O double G here!  The Gin and Juice guy, the Drop it like it’s hot guy, the Lodi Dodi we like to party guy.

Once the album had released I started hearing people talking about the CD.  Giving good and bad reviews, especially on social media.  I figured I had to download it to my phone to at least see what all the buzz was about.  So that’s what I did.

To my surprise, there were 32 gospel songs on this Bible of Love LP.  Also to my surprise I was starting to enjoy listening to each track.  I knew I was falling in love with this compilation when I could let the songs play without skipping.  There was a message to be heard and Brother Snoop was putting the message out there.  Brother Snoop was willing to go places that many others are not.  Especially not a gangsta rapper.  In one particular song, he states that he grew up in church, that his grandmother had introduced him to gospel music.  So of course his gospel roots are there.  As Sam Smith says, we all pray in the end, and I’ve found this to be true.

I’ve also found myself listening to these songs at work, in the mornings, and in the evenings around my house.  I had missed good gospel music.  With 32 songs there is literally something for everyone; the young, the old, the new school, those who only wear skirts and dresses, those on the usher board, those who love traditional gospel music, and tend to wear their Sunday Best every week.  In a previous blog titled, Take me back, Dear Lord I state the importance of gospel music.  Therefore, I was certainly able to connect with it.

Brother Snoop reached out to the greats of gospel for this CD.  You’ll hear Fred Hammond, The Clarke Sisters, Rance Allen, John P. Kee, and many more.  Can we call Snoop Dogg the DJ Khalid of Gospel music?  Basically, what he has done is he’s produced these records and have a number of different gospel artist singing their songs or being featured on Snoop Dogg presents The Bible of Love album in all of their glory and anointing.  Sure, you’ll hear Snoop in several songs but for the most part it’s good old fashion gospel signing.

In 1993, Snoop rapped about a true story of Murder was the case that they gave him while in 2018 he raps about how God has given him a second chance.  And while doing so, his gospel CD has now debuted as number one!  Perhaps this is how it’s suppose to work?  Sharing your story about how God has made you new and how he’s been there for you all along even when you wasn’t worthy of His Grace and Mercy.

I don’t know the next steps Brother Snoop will take.  Or how drastic his life has changed. I can’t be the judge of that.  Perhaps, he’s still on the potter’s wheel?  All I know is he was bold enough to bring God to the forefront to millions of people; people who may not have ever had anyone tell them of the goodness of Jesus!  Just imagine how big his fan base is.

I’m definitely a fan of this particular LP.  What about you?  Are you feeling Snoop Dogg’s gospel cd?  Who else uses their platform to reach the people? I’ll wait!
