This is America

A while back I made a statement on one of my social media accounts stating to be aware of those people who are “Pro-Fetus but Anti-child.”

This particular quote comes from Bakari Sellers, an African-American attorney, political commentator, and politician.

First, let’s be really clear here. I’m neither pro-life or pro-choice. This is a hard fence to straddle because what it all boils down to is what a woman decides to do with her body and what’s inside of her. Women have abortions for many different reasons and quite frankly I don’t think that white males (or any male) should be telling women what they should or should not be doing with their bodies. But these particular people like to be in control so therefore they like to put laws into place that will somehow stroke their little egos. Continue reading

“Would it be ok if your spouse went on vacation with their ex?”

Recently, in mainstream media, most of you have heard about Jada Pinkett-Smith discussing her relationship with her husband, Will Smith; along with conversations around her children, her Bonus child, and his mother.  If you are like me, you may even tune in occasionally to her Red Table Talk show that airs on Facebook Live.

Let me be the first to say that I commend Jada for her candid conversations around marriage, kids, life, and blended families.  They are definitely needed and most often they are also very eye-opening.

With that being said, I wanted to take a moment to briefly talk about a recent interview that Jada did on Sway In the Morning radio show.  She stated that because Will had a child prior to their marriage that she allows/is okay with Will, Trey (Will’s son by another woman) and Trey’s mother going on vacation together.  Social media went into a frenzy with views all over the spectrum.  Many people stating that they weren’t that mature to allow such thing to happen.

I want to be clear and upfront to my readers and to those who may be around my age–late 30’s–and say this has nothing to do with maturity.  It really has nothing to do with trust. Do not feel bad or feel like you need to get on their level.  A person’s opinion is their opinion, and mine is certainly mine,  but do not feel like you need to get in line with this couple.

People have to learn to take their marriage seriously and you shouldn’t invite additional people into your union.  Where is the respect for the spouse?  If you open a window eventually something will fly in.  I am all for blending families.  I recently posted about how to Embrace your Blended Family just this past Fathers Day.  Click HERE to read more about it!

But telling my husband to go on vacation with your child who is in his 20’s (or any age for that matter) along with his mother so that he can get the dynamics of both mother and father is uncalled for.  Why would you even put that spirit out there?

I’m happy to go on a day trip with everyone to an amusement park.  I will love for us to all be together at graduations and birthdays.  But a vacation where you’re going to be acting like a married couple?  Miss me with that one!!  I think you should have a relationship with the child’s mother/father but a vacation–not so much.

I wonder if Will would allow Jada to do the same thing if she had a child with another man prior to them?  I highly doubt it!!

Keep blending your families but know you MUST draw the line somewhere!  Whether you agree or disagree with me, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comment section below.

My heart is in pieces #Parkland

Last night I sat in bed and just scrolled my Twitter timeline and read all the text from students who sent “I love you” text to family and friends. Not because it was Valentine’s Day, but because their school was under attack.  They were living in the moment of a mass shooter running through their school in Florida.  Pictures showed them on the floor under desk with classrooms being invaded by police. Lord, we need a blizzard and not the kind you eat!

I remember growing up as a young girl and hearing my late great Granny praying and saying, “Lord, send us a snow storm to clean the air!”  She was a Godly woman and prayed for just about everything.  At the time I was a little confused as to how the snow would exactly “clean” the air.  But I know for a fact, that a snow storm is just what we need in the State of Virginia right now.  In fact, Lord, send us a blizzard!  With the flu, and colds, and stomach bugs, and upper respiratory infections, we all need to be trapped inside the house for a good 5 days.

I get it now!  With a snow storm we’re pretty much forced to stay indoors eliminating the act of spreading germs and whatnot.  The air has a chance to clear out and rejuvenate itself.  I can’t think of anything better.  You were right Granny!

Currently, we have so many kids missing school because they are sick, so many adults missing work because they’re sick and then those who are sick and still come to work because they don’t want to waste PTO on a sick day or perhaps gain an occurrence.  It’s just too much.  According to the news, this flu season is the worst we’ve seen in the last 10 years or so.  With that said, the only place you’ll find me is at work or the grocery store and that’s just as bad.  I’m constantly washing my hands.  Ewww.  So come on snow.  One last time for the season.  I’m welcoming you with open arms.  After that bring on Spring!!  My favorite time of the year!

Anyone else have sayings their grandparents would say?  How is the flu season going in your area?  Better yet, anyone else ready for Spring?

Are you qualified to run for President?

Today, I’m listening to the #RolandMartinUnfiltered podcast.  I mentioned in a previous blog, which you can find HERE, my love for podcast, especially when I’m at work.  If you are not familiar with Roland Martin, he is a journalist, political commentator, author, etc.

To get to the point, he refers to the speech that Oprah gave at the Golden Globes this past Sunday, 1/7/2018; and how immediately there was chatter saying, Oprah should run for President.  Social Media was in a frenzy due to the awesome speech and how it was delivered.  *News Flash* Oprah talks for a living.  If it’s one thing she can do, it’s giving a speech.  Anyway, Oprah hasn’t come directly out stating that she would “run” (and has often said she wouldn’t),  but many believed that this speech was her way of indirectly saying, she may give the 2020 election a thought.  Continue reading

Kirkland’s New Cotton Trend is Humiliating….check out the pic!!

You know, I am really unsure of what type of world we live in today.  But what I do know is the fact that the chain store Kirklands, yes your favorite decorating store, has the nerve, the audacity, the bravery to come out with balls of COTTON as decorations is beyond me.img_2803-1

Let’s be clear.  This isn’t just some pillows made out of cotton.  This is cotton that looks like it’s been freshly picked out of the nearest field.  How degrading, hurtful, and humiliating.  I need to know who is over this design department.  Who is the owner and CEO of said store because I have never seen anything like this.  We don’t need any reminders of slavery, we don’t need reminders of what our ancestors had to go through.  We have constant reminders every single day.  This is just pouring salt over a wound that hasn’t even began to heal yet.

You mean to tell me you couldn’t find anything else to use for your Spring collection or whatever you want to call it.  Besides, you tell me what is cute about having cotton hung up on your wall?  Or what’s cute about having a garland of cotton crawling down the rails of your steps?  Moreover, who approved this nonsense??  The fact that you didn’t even think to perhaps color the balls, make them out of ceramic or ANYTHING proves that you really don’t give a crap about how this would make blacks feel.

I need answers and I need them fast.  Kirklands????????  Where the hell are you?  Am I the only one who feels this way?
