My Christmas Playlist

I’m making a Christmas playlist, and I’m checking it twice, because Christmas music only comes around once every 12 months.  Listening to Christmas music any other time during the year just doesn’t feel right, so it is important that I have all of my favorite Christmas songs ready to go in just a click or two.

  • The first song that must be added to the list is “Silent Night” by The Temptations.  It is not Christmas until I hear this song multiple times in a row.
  • The next song to be added to this list is “Now Behold the Lamb” by Kirk Franklin & The Family.  I love the message behind the words in this song.
  • The Jackson Five’s rendition of “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” is my favorite, so of course I have to add this song to the playlist.
  • “All I want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey is legendary.  The bells and upbeat singing puts me in the spirit to decorate my tree (which I still have to do)!
  • “This Christmas” by Chris Brown is definitely at the top of the list as being one of my favorites.  Chris Brown’s voice brings a feeling of warmth that comforts the soul.
  • “O’Holy Night” by Destiny’s Child.  I loved this version because it was very rare that Michelle (former member of the group Destiny’s Child) to lead an entire song.  The softness of her voice was perfect.
  • As a person who grew up in a black church, nothing compares to Whitney Houston’s choir version of “Joy to the World.”  It just brings a good feeling over my body and it’s a song that I could listen to over and over.
  • If you are familiar with Babyface, then his silky voice will surely draw you in.  Therefore, Babyface’s version of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” will do just that.  The saxophone at the end of the song is very welcoming as well.
  • “If Everyday Could be like Christmas” by Patti LaBelle.  This songs speaks for itself.  We need a world of love and giving.  Christmas everyday.
  • “Born in a Manger” by Patti LaBelle is another favorite of mine.  Her voice fits this song perfectly.
  • You can’t have a Christmas playlist without Boyz II Men’s “Let it Snow” song.  I love this song because it not your usual Christmas song.  It has a great R&B flavor to it that makes you snap your finger and nod your head to the beat.  Besides, who doesn’t want it to snow for Christmas?
  • “The Christmas Song” by Stevie Wonder.  The version I prefer comes from 1967–way before I was born but I love hearing the young Stevie’s voice singing about Christmas joy.

Finally, I want to add something fun with a little more upbeat to the playlist and there are two songs that would fit this category to a tee.  Those being:

  • “Jesus is the Reason for the Season” by Kirk Franklin & The Family.  The title speaks for itself.  When it boils down to it, Christmas is not about material things.  Christmas is about celebrating the Birth of Jesus.
  • The second song would be “Sleigh Ride” by TLC (my daughter reminded me of this song).  In the song they sing, “Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”

To get a hold of my favorite Christmas songs you can find my iTunes playlist HERE.  Perhaps this Holiday season, these songs will find their way to your playlist or maybe you’ll hear them while under a mistletoe with someone special.

Do you have a favorite Christmas song?  If so, share the song and the artist who sings it in the comments below.

ps-My hubby’s favorite song is Bing Crosby’s, “White Christmas!” It’s not particularly my favorite but I’ve added it the playlist.  🙂

‘Tis the Season,
