Flipping Houses in Richmond, VA

Checking goals off their list is probably one of the few things this power couple does best.  After years of contributing valuable time into the corporate world, they both wanted to start a new adventure.  They had other dreams to accomplish and many more goals to eventually check off the list.  Find out how and why a married couple decided to split ways with their then “normal” careers and step out on faith to begin a new “normal” way of living.

Meet Derrick and Shawnda Parker.  They met while both attending Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in the early 2000’s and later ran into each other some years later and rekindled.  To fast forward a tad bit, the Parkers were later married in 2014.  After graduating from VCU they both had their own career paths.  Derrick worked as a Mental Health Counselor while Shawnda was a Dental Hygienist.  With very stable careers they still desired for more and wanted to build a better and more solid foundation for their family as well as their communities.  The Parkers had a work hard, play later mindset.

After months of debate and prayer, the couple decided to step out on faith to follow their dreams.  During this time they worked their primary jobs full time while taking the necessary steps to be able to check off the first item on their goal list.

Derrick and Shawnda, who resides in Richmond, VA with their two year old son and Yorkie, decided to become Real Estate Investors.  It was a big leap but early on in the processes they chose to stand by the words of 2 Timothy 1:7.

“For God hath not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

As investors they would buy old run-down homes, rehab them, and then put them back on the market to sell.  Improving the Richmond and surrounding areas for its residents would become their mission.  After many months and uncounted hours of education under Fortune Builders Mastery, a premier real estate investing program, the Parkers founded Power Builders, LLC in May 2016.

Eager to get to work, the couple jumped directly into the business, taking no days off.  They began building their team.  Searching for potential homes to flip.  They knew the road to success was hard work therefore there was no letting up.

Early mornings turned into late nights, however the Parkers remained focused.  They are committed to completing the deal, from point A to Z.  Dedication, persistence, and integrity has become a part of their core elements of business. They’ve previously stated:

“We’re highly motivated, knowledgeable, ethical, and qualified to handle any real estate transaction.  We are committed to helping people with their real estate needs and making successful deals happen.”

Of course they weren’t stopping at just becoming Investors; Shawnda now has her realtors license while Derrick is in the process of becoming a contractor.  This power couple is not wasting any time.  Not only are they Investors where they can buy property and flip it, but now they can buy and sell homes, and soon be able to do contracting work.  Talk about a win-win combination!

Anyone deciding to go into the business of Real Estate must be diligent and devoted to working for and with people.  Derrick and Shawnda take pride in working together and they want to work with YOU!
